ABOUT US
Van Matre Construction—Serving Colorado Since 2001
From a young age, I’ve been immersed in the world of construction. Throughout high school and into college, I worked various jobs in the industry, which laid the groundwork for my future. I graduated from CU Boulder with a degree in Geology, but as I stepped into the job market, I faced a reality that many in my field encounter: most opportunities were leading me to Midland, Texas. While the prospect of becoming a "Landman" was tempting, I knew that if I wanted to thrive on the Front Range, I needed to pivot. So, I strapped on my tool bag and got to work.
In 2001, after years of working my way up from laborer to project manager for various general contractors, I founded Van Matre Construction. In those early days, I didn’t turn my nose up at any work—whether it was finishing basements, building greenhouses, or remodeling homes, I was eager to take on every challenge. This diverse experience eventually led me to the world of custom home building and commercial projects, and I watched my company grow alongside my passion for construction.
A pivotal moment came when an engineer recommended us for structural repair work. I discovered a knack for it, and soon those referrals began to roll in. Over time, the structural repair side of the business eclipsed custom building, and I found my true calling. Working in homes and buildings of all ages has provided me with invaluable insight into identifying and permanently fixing issues that many might overlook.

Construction isn’t an easy business, and one of my biggest challenges has been maintaining a top-quality workforce capable of tackling larger jobs while keeping them engaged in a fluctuating economy. We perform a specialty task, and the only way my employees can master their skills is through hands-on training from me. I spend time in the field each week with every crew—excavating, welding, drilling piles, or whatever the job demands. I believe that the quality of my repairs hinges on the talent and commitment of my teams. That’s why I prioritize quality above all else; if we excel in our work, every other challenge we face seems manageable.
I’m proud to have built a company where employees are happy, committed to delivering top-quality work, and continually striving to improve their skills. We maintain a culture of teamwork and fun, which I believe is essential for fostering creativity and motivation.
Outside of work, my life is enriched by my wonderful wife and our perfectly imperfect sons, who keep me grounded. I’m also getting back into shape after putting off personal health during the challenging early years of starting a family and a business. I’ve received accolades like the Boulder County “40 Under 40” recognition, and while I’m now over 50, I still carry those early accomplishments with pride.
As I reflect on my journey, I’m most proud of the reviews from our clients. Reading their feedback reminds me that we truly deliver more than just services—we create lasting relationships and satisfaction. Each happy client fuels my motivation for new projects and reaffirms why I love what I do.
Though my education in Geology initially pointed me toward the oil industry, I’ve found that the principles I learned continue to inform my work today. The drilling we do now may be at shallower depths than I once imagined, but understanding the variables and limitations of soil and bedrock has proven invaluable in my construction career.
At Van Matre Construction, I am committed to building strong foundations, not only for the structures we work on but also for the relationships we cultivate with our clients and the community.
